It\u2019s time to dominate your test scores!<\/p>\n<h2>Know the Symptoms<\/h2>\n<p>Do you know what test anxiety looks like? If you\u2019ve had one of the following <a href=\"http:\/\/www.testprepreview.com\/test_anxiety.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">symptoms while taking a test<\/a>, you probably have some form of test anxiety.<\/p>\n<h3>Sweaty Hands<\/h3>\n<p>When you feel nervous, you\u2019ve got a lot of adrenaline pumping through your body. As a result, nervous test takers sometimes start sweating a little during test time.<\/p>\n<h4>How to combat it:<\/h4>\n<p>Keep a cold water bottle nearby to cool you down. Also keep napkins or a small towel handy to dry off your hands.<\/p>\n<h3>Fast Breathing<\/h3>\n<p>You might not even realize you\u2019re doing it, but fast, short breaths are a symptom of test anxiety. Shallow breaths don\u2019t completely fill your lungs. As a result, your concentration dwindles and your anxiety increases.<\/p>\n<h4>How to combat it:<\/h4>\n<p>Throughout your test, take periodic deep breaths. Inhale, exhale.<\/p>\n<h3>Upset Stomach<\/h3>\n<p>Definitely not the ideal way to feel when you\u2019re trying to ace a test. An upset stomach is common for some nervous test-takers. Sometimes you\u2019re so nervous that you feel a bit nauseous. It takes your mind away from your test, which is not a good thing.<\/p>\n<h4>How to combat it:<\/h4>\n<p>Before the test, steer clear of any heavy foods. Stick to something light and nutritious.<\/p>\n<h2>Before the Test<\/h2>\n<p>Now you know how to treat the symptoms. But what if you could start curing your test anxiety before you even make it to the classroom? Start treating your test anxiety before the test. The more you prepare in advance, the calmer you\u2019ll be when you sit down to complete the test.<\/p>\n<h3>Don\u2019t Procrastinate<\/h3>\n<p>Do you start feeling a little nervous leading up to the test date? It\u2019s probably because you have studying to do, but you don\u2019t know where to start.<\/p>\n<p>First of all, don\u2019t you dare wait until the last minute! That will only make you more nervous. Instead, come up with a study plan well before the test date. Set aside an amount of time to study each day so you can get into a rhythm.<\/p>\n<h3>Study the RIGHT Way<\/h3>\n<p>During your designated study time, use a <a href=\"https:\/\/myredkite.com\/blog\/4-steps-start-acing-every-test\/#more-249\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study guide<\/a> to keep your efforts organized. Your study guide will help you pinpoint which areas you need to spend some extra time on. Make sure you also avoid any distractions. Turn the TV off; put your cell phone on mute. Remind yourself that tests are an opportunity to show your teachers what you\u2019ve got. They\u2019re never designed with your failure in mind at all!<\/p>\n<h2>On Test Day<\/h2>\n<p>We know what it feels like to wake up on the morning of a test day. It\u2019s the first thought in your mind in the morning and it leaves you feeling a little uneasy all day. Don\u2019t let it phase you. Now is the perfect time to put your anxiety to bed.<\/p>\n<h3>Don\u2019t Cram<\/h3>\n<p>You might feel the urge to pull out your study guides and start jamming every word into your brain. Don\u2019t do it! This kind of studying just feeds your anxiety. Instead, do some light studying for an hour or two. Remember this is just a review &#8211; you already did your studying ahead of time! Aren\u2019t you glad you prepared?<\/p>\n<h3>Positive Thinking<\/h3>\n<p>If your anxiety is really bothering you, try some positive thinking. First, remind yourself that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/blog\/in-practice\/201502\/test-anxiety-quick-tips\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">you\u2019ve done all you can to prepare for this test<\/a>. Accept that, at this point, there\u2019s nothing more that you can do to better your chances. What\u2019s the worst that could happen if you fail? It won\u2019t be the end of the world. Once you come to that realization, it might make you feel a little better.<\/p>\n<h3>Get Moving<\/h3>\n<p>Some light exercise is a great way to reduce stress, if you have the time. Take a walk around campus or head to the gym for a quick, thirty minute workout. Your brain functions better when you\u2019re active.<\/p>\n<h2>During the Test<\/h2>\n<p>Even with all the preparation in the world, you still might find yourself nervous on test day. Not to worry. These tips will help you manage your anxiety and make it through the test in one piece.<\/p>\n<h3>Don\u2019t Rush<\/h3>\n<p>When you\u2019re so nervous that you feel physically uncomfortable, you might feel the urge to hurry though the test questions. This always backfires. You might think that you\u2019re answering questions correctly, but you could be missing something. Take the time to go back, re-read the questions and make sure you\u2019re answering the question in full.<\/p>\n<h3>Keep the Pace<\/h3>\n<p>That said, you don\u2019t have all the time in the world. Many tests are timed or must be completed before the class is over. So you can\u2019t spend too much time on a single question. If you find yourself stumped by a particular question, come back to it later.<\/p>\n<h3>Release Tension<\/h3>\n<p>Test anxiety causes you to feel a little jittery, which messes with your concentration.
